2024 Corruption case: Etiopia

What happened?
An alert was received from the country office in Ethiopia. The complaint concerned insufficient documentation of some expenses of a local partner organization.
What we did
NCA hired an audit company to do an investigation of the local partner organization. The subsequent report stated findings surrounding missing documentation. NCA agreed to these findings and the stipulated amount has been repaid to MFA.
What we have learned
The case served as a reminder of the importance of the internal control work in relation to our partner organizations by our Country Offices.
