Waste can become a treasure when managed properly
NCA Ethiopia facilitated World Clean-up Day together, with its partners, joining the other 180 countries that are part of the biggest global civic movment for a cleaner planet.
On September 18th, Norwegian Church Aid Ethiopia together with the BEWI Group and its implementing partner Tamra for Social Development (TSD) became part of the World Clean Up Day - one of the biggest global civic movements for a cleaner planet. NCA Ethiopia and its partner were the only non-profit organization that took part in the movement in Ethiopia this year.
NCA through its partner TSD, organized the cleanup in Shashemene Town, Ethiopia, one of the four intervention geographic areas of the Renewable Energy, Greening, and Sustainability Programme.
In just a few hours, volunteers collected 8,900kg of waste out of which 1,176 Kg is PET bottles.
The clean-up brought together women, men, youth, community leaders, waste collection associations. Some 2,544 participated in the clean-up, out of which 1,721 were women.
Tsegazeab Hailu, Climate Resilience Programme Advisor with NCA Ethiopia says: - Our goal is to influence local government structures, private businesses, and the community to reduce the increasing plastic waste while creating job opportunities at the same time.”
