Introducing JamiiHub
JamiiHub is NCA’s digital participation platform, powered by Decidim and enhanced with an innovative, anonymous WhatsApp chatbot. The name JamiiHub, meaning “Community Hub” in Swahili, reflects both the platform’s purpose and its pilot location—serving as a space where community members can share ideas, access information, and participate in decision-making processes.
Innovation – The WhatsApp Chatbot
In close collaboration with NCA, Octree has developed an innovative WhatsApp chatbot that connects users directly to the Decidim platform. This tool was designed or greater accessibility, the chatbot enables users to engage with consultations using a familiar and widely used messaging app—especially valuable in areas with limited data access or digital infrastructure.
Each Decidim "process" or "assembly" is linked to its own tailored chatbot. Administrators can tailor the language, questions, and options to suit the goals of each process.
Data Privacy and Security
JamiiHub and the complementary chatbot are fully compliant with the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). All data collected are stored on secure servers in Switzerland and are accessible only to authorized NCA staff. Any sensitive personal data submitted through the chatbot will be removed in accordance with NCA’s data protection protocols.
Decidim
Decidim is an open-source digital democracy platform developed in Barcelona. It provides tools for participatory budgeting, citizen assemblies, consultations, and strategic planning—ensuring transparency, inclusion, and accountability. Built with strong privacy and security principles, Decidim empowers communities to co-create decisions and policies that affect their lives.
License and right of use of Jamiihub
Jamiihub has been developed under creative commons licenses. It is free to use for all.
Other developers, governments, and aid agencies are encouraged to adapt it, build on it and continue its development.
