40.000 are ready for NCA's Lenten Campaign

NCA’s major annual fundraising campaign is just around the corner. On 22-24 March, volunteers from congregations across the country will gather donations for Norway’s second-largest door-to-door campaign, the Lenten campaign.

NCA’s Lenten Campaign comes at a time where big parts of the world are affected by devastating wars, enormous humanitarian crises, and international aid cuts.

This makes the campaign more important than ever, says Anne Cecilie Kaltenborn, Secretary General of Norwegian Church Aid.

“We know that congregations put an enormous amount of work into the Lenten Campaign, and we are deeply grateful for the efforts being made across the country,” Kaltenborn says.

What we do

NCA´s Campaign is Norway’s second-largest fundraising campaign (after the annual national TV campaign, the NRK Telethon). Each year, 40,000 confirmands and volunteers collect money for our work just before Easter. The main campaign days this year are 22–24 March, but many congregations begin their efforts weeks in advance. Donations have already started coming in.

Funds from the Lenten Campaign support both emergency relief in crises and long-term development work aimed at reducing suffering and poverty worldwide. In 2025, the campaign raised 36 million NOK (3.7 million USD). The funds are not earmarked for specific projects but support various parts of our work around the world.

Clean water

The campaign has a particular emphasis on access to clean water and the enormous ripple effects this creates for individuals and communities. Nearly 800 million people worldwide live without access to clean water.

Providing access to clean water is an important part of Norwegian Church Aid’s work. This village in South Ari in southern Ethiopia received clean water last year.

Water is a key part of NCA’s work, both in emergency response and long-term assistance.

“Access to water is about so much more than the right to drink clean water. Water is essential for food production, hygiene, and good health. It is central to adapting to climate change. Access to water has enormous ripple effects. Water creates development,” says Anne Cecilie Kaltenborn.
