A new Ebola outbreak has been confirmed in eastern Congo, in an area already affected by conflict and a humanitarian crisis. So far, 64 people have been infected and six have died.

Norwegian Church Aid is on the ground in the area and is now preparing a rapid and targeted response to prevent further spread.
“Ebola hits hardest where health systems are already weak. Now it’s about reaching people quickly with knowledge, prevention, and trust,” says Marianne Opheim Sampo, section head for Western and Southern Africa at Norwegian Church Aid.
The response will focus, among other things, on information and mobilization in local communities, collaboration with religious leaders, and initiatives in the areas of water, sanitation, and hygiene.
At the same time, Norwegian Church Aid has implemented measures to ensure the safety of its staff and the continued operation of its programs in an increasingly challenging area.
