Abebech Gashaw, 35, is a mother of five who was displaced from Wollega in the Oromia Region in 2014 due to an ethnic driven violence. She now lives with her family in ine of the three IDP Camps in Debre Birhan, where they have spent years trying to rebuild their lives.

Few places in Syria carry as much historical significance as Daraa. Yet the city still bears the marks of displacement, crisis, and poverty. Even in recent months, people have continued to arrive in Daraa, fleeing the fighting in As-Suwayda and seeking safety, shelter, and support.

In the remote villages of Zata District, clean water has long been more than a basic need - it has been a lifeline repeatedly disrupted by years of conflict. When the only community water points collapsed, families were forced back to unsafe river sources, exposing them to illness and deepening daily hardship. Yet within this challenging landscape, stories of resilience and collective determination have emerged. Through the support of OCHA’s Ethiopia Humanitarian Fund and the efforts of Norwegian Church Aid, communities like Addis Mender and Addis Ketema are reclaiming access to safe water - and with it, a renewed sense of dignity, health, and hope.

Across four refugee camps in Jewi, Terkidi, Kule, and Nguenyyiel in the Gambella Region of Ethiopia, 150 refugee households have just completed their first large-scale maize harvest from the crops they have sown three months prior.

With support from Norwegian Church Aid (NCA), women are claiming their space in decision-making, youth are leading peacebuilding efforts, and communities are finding new ways to lift themselves out of poverty.
