SDG 1: End Poverty

End poverty in all its forms everywhere:

Even thought the international community has made great advances in cutting extreme poverty by more than half since 1990, growing inequality, conflict and environment change threaten the gains achieved thus far. Sustainable and effective poverty alleviation strategies must address the underlying structural and normative hurdles such as hunger, malnutrition, lack of access to healthcare and education, social discrimination and exclusion.

NCA’s approach

At the heart of NCA’s mandate is the fight against poverty. In order to fulfill our mandate, we address the root causes of poverty and injustice, by advocating for just decisions by public authorities, businesses and religious leaders for inclusive growth through sustainable jobs, and undercutting inequality. In compliance with the targets under SDG1, we deliver the following:

  • Increase access for the marginalized, in particular women and youth, to land and micro finance through land rights advocacy, and savings\loan groups respectively (linked also to SDG 2 and 5)
  • Income generating activities for women, men and youth across all our country programmes
  • Build our programme beneficiaries’ resilience towards climate, social, and economic shocks
  • Support to community-based budget monitoring and tracking to ensure that those living in extreme poverty have increased access to government resources and social protection programmes
  • Influence Norwegian aid policies to better address challenges of addressing poverty and assisting the poor
  • Programmes to address capital flight through a balance of adaptation/mitigation finance
